The best way to throw a surprise party (or surprise lunch in this case) is to throw it at least 3 days prior to the actual birthday. That way no one sees it coming and your surprise is all but guaranteed.
That's what the Channel 4 sports crew was able to accomplish today for our friend and colleague Lorien. Giving credit where credit is due, Jenny Cavnar plotted the whole thing and pulled it off beautifully. Though her supporting cast was pretty good as well.
The plan was simple, as all good plans are. Lure Lorien to the Corvette Diner under the guise that she was field producing a story for one of our news reporters, then jump out from behind a wall of menus and yell surprise. Like I said, simple. The key is the 3 day buffer...she didn't expect a thing.
Perfect.
